Whisky The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old. The Balvenie Doublewood is a 12 year old Single Malt from a distillery that has been making its drinks since 1892, using exclusively its own barley in a handcrafted manner. During its maturation period, The Balvenie Double Wood is transferred from the traditional oak casks in which it was originally matured, to Spanish oak casks, which have previously been used to mature sherry. Each of these two stages gives different qualities to The Balvenie Double Wood, the traditional casks, having previously housed bourbon, soften the whisky and give it character, while the sherry casks add depth and richness to the flavour.
